Animal acupuncture is the use of Traditional Chinese Medicine and applying the knowledge that has been accumulated over at least 2000 years of Chinese treatment. Acupuncture is now used throughout the world in conjunction with Western medicine; recent clinical and scientific research shows a positive response to treatment both in humans and animals.
By using specific acupuncture points it is possible to treat a wide range of medical issues. Although it is very good at helping with the control of painful conditions its use is not just limited to this and can be used to treat some of these general conditions:
- Intevertebral disc disease
- Respiratory problems
- Skin problems
- Gastrointestinal problems
- Sporting injuries
In the UK animal acupuncture is protected by the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966, the application of solid, not hollow needles requires a Veterinary Surgeon to administer acupuncture.
