I am a Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS) and as well as providing animal acupuncture for Peace. Heal. Love. I run a Home visit Vet practice in Stamford, Oakham and surrounding villages called Pawsquad.
Acupuncture, for me, is about using another method to treat diseases alongside Western medicine techniques. It is about having another 'string to my bow', another way of healing my patients and helping my clients. Acupuncture is also a very personal and individualised treatment method, no two treatment sessions are the same, acupuncture points are selected depending on how my patient is doing, not just on a generic treatment plan and I find great satisfaction in treating patients as individuals.
I am often asked to apply acupuncture methods when Western medicine is not having the desired effect or when a disease process is not as well controlled as I or an owner would like. These patients are often on the maximum safe drug doses and often using more than one drug to control a condition such as advanced osteoarthritis. However, I also use acupuncture in the early stage of diseases to reduce the reliance on Western drugs and sometimes drug doses can be reduced following acupuncture treatment.
I am constantly fascinated and humbled by how much knowledge the Chinese acquired so many, many years ago, without the benefit of modern medical techniques and modern scientific research. It is a great privilege to be able to tap into this knowledge base to be able to help my patients.
I look forward to treating your pet with acupuncture.
